Week 1: Extended

Since reflecting more on the feedback I received earlier in the week I have changed the problem I would like to solve during the next couple of weeks.

How can schools to teach students more life skills to help with life after education?
As someone who has been living independently without the help from family for over a year now, I have noticed the lack of basic skills myself and many others have to be able to live comfortably.
Many schools do not teach life skills and expect students to learn at home or on their own however this may not be possible for all young people. If schools allowed students to learn skills such as cooking, money management, interview/ job skills and sewing, the transition from living at home with parents/carers would be a lot easier.
This is not just a problem that can be solved in schools, some people are able to learn skills at home which puts them at an advantage so something to help young people learn these skills in their own time may solve this issue just as well as something used in a school.
After doing a bit of research I found this report all about this topic that could greatly help my project-

Week 1: Extended

Initial Ideas/ Week 1

We began with having the opportunity to discuss problems that could be solved using the media that we had come up with prior to this session. I narrowed 9 problems down to 3 all in the category of smart learning and converted them into questions that I could work with.

These were-

– What can be done in schools to engage/encourage more girls into enter an engineering/ technology career?

– How can we help schools to teach students more life skills to help with life after education?

– How can we get parents/carers be more involved in their child’s education?

In a group we identified how likely we would be able to solve each problem, looking at their potential for impact, anything that could be problematic when solving the problem and more. All the feedback I received by the group are recorded on this sheet-

At this point I am leaning towards the issue of the amount of girls going into a career in engineering as is an issue I have witnessed myself and I feel is a problem that could be solved if the right approach is taken.

This is the research I had done previous to this-
